How to impregnate blank Getxent Tubes?
Impregnate Tubes with your real target material in 5 simple steps:

Follow this procedure to impregnate odors of explosives, narcotics, currency, pests, allergens, etc.
How to use Getxent Tubes for dog training?
1. Handle an impregnated Getxent Tube with metal tweezers.
2. Hide it anywhere (indoors, outdoors, vehicles, underwater, or buried). Training can start immediately, but OSAC (2024-S-0023) recommends waiting 30 min.
3. Retrieve with tweezers after training and store in a glass vial.
How long can I use impregnated Getxent Tubes?
Getxent Tube longevity matches its impregnation time:
- 48 hours impregnation = 48 hours of continuous use (e.g., 2 one-hour sessions per week for 6 months).
- For short impregnation times (<1 hour) results may vary - contact us for details.

Do I need to use blank Getxent Tubes?
Following OSAC Standard 2024-S-0023, which requires the use of blanks for training aid verification, you can use blank Getxent Tubes in your line-up or search area. Each blank Tube should be replaced regularly.
At Getxent, we follow rigorous procedures to ensure the highest level of standardization. All Getxent Tubes are cleaned using a specially designed process, and each batch undergoes strict quality control, including Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis.
An independent study even concluded that the Blank Getxent Tubes "had the lowest amount of background odor" among the training aids on the market.
Will the Getxent Tube interact with environment?
Impregnated Getxent Tubes might leave an olfactory print on surfaces as any target material. Indeed, the odor released by the Getxent Tube behaves as the target material. Nevertheless, the Getxent Tube design reduces the contact with the surface.
Impregnated Getxent Tubes will not absorb external odors during training when used correctly and within the impregnation time frame. The outward flow of target odor molecules prevents contamination, as external odors cannot enter the Tube against this flow. As long as this outward flow remains stronger, the Tubes stay free from contamination.
How to store Getxent Tubes?
Blank Getxent Tubes:
- Unopened bag: 36 months after delivery, provided they remain in their original sealed packaging.
- Opened bag:Â store in Getxent glass vials
Impregnated Getxent Tubes: store in Getxent glass vials.
In all cases, store them in a cool place (ideally 0 to 25°C) without exceeding -30 to +50°C.
Why my dog might not alert properly?
The odor from an impregnated Getxent Tube replicates the target material. If your dog does not alert properly, the odor intensity may be outside its detection range.
Most dogs are trained with high odor concentrations, so we recommend:Â
- Increasing the impregnation duration of a blank Getxent Tube
- Using at least three impregnated/Odor Getxent Tubes together
Why is it the safest training aid?
When properly impregnated, Getxent Tubes:
- Are safe for dogs to touch, bite, lick or swallow
- Do not contain harmful substances (e.g., narcotics, allergens).
- Are non-detonable (e.g., explosives).
Though not sterilized, independent lab tests confirm no bacterial or fungal growth.

If they are contaminated with hazardous material through direct contact, comply with the legal requirements for the disposal of the contaminant.
Can I impregnate Getxent Tubes with frozen or cryogenized samples?
Yes, it is possible to impregnate Getxent Tubes with frozen or cryogenized samples without prior thawing. However, the impregnation duration must be extended compared to impregnation at room temperature.
Can I clean Getxent Tubes?
Yes, you can clean impregnated Getxent Tube to remove dust/mud. Use only tap water and let it dry before storing.
Can I analyse Getxent Tubes?
Yes, Getxent Tubes can be analyzed using analytical instruments, most commonly:
- Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)

Why do some Getxent odor Tubes seem to have no smell for humans?
That’s completely normal.
Dogs have a much higher sensitivity to odors than humans, so an odor that seems undetectable to us can still be strong for them.
The goal is to achieve a target odor concentration similar to what is encountered in the field.
