Use of Canine Olfactory Detection for Covid-19 Testing Study on U.A.E. Trained Detection Dog Sensitivity
In UAE, detection dogs (mainly explosive detection dogs) were trained 2 weeks to detect COVID19 using Getxent tubes to collect odors from patients.
The study showed that:
- >71% of dogs have more than 90% sensitivity (minimum required for implementation)
-
comorbidities tested do not interfere with the detection of COVID19
Those results led to the operational deployment of such dogs in UAE airports, using Getxent tubes to collect odor samples on travellers.
