The ability of biodetection canines to detect COVID-19 odours from clinical samples
This study evaluated the performance of Getxent tubes in collecting the odor of patients to determine if they are infected with COVID-19.
Odor samples were collected in two ways:
- Getxent tube placed under both armpits for 10 minutes.
- Getxent tube suspended above a saline gargle specimen in a glass jar, sealed for 24 hours.
The results are:
- 100% of dogs detected the presence of COVID-19 in infected individuals, regardless of the sampling procedure with Getxent tubes.
- 100% of dogs did not alert to blank Getxent tubes.
This demonstrates that Getxent tubes are odorless and can reliably collect odor samples from patients, enabling dogs to detect COVID-19 infected individuals.
